Iran claimed on Sunday that it launched missile attacks on U.S. military targets in Qatar and Jordan after tensions escalated in the Strait of Hormuz.
Reports of explosions and air defense activity spread across several Gulf countries as the situation worsened.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it struck and disabled a second vessel in the Strait of Hormuz. It also claimed to have fired ballistic missiles at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.
According to the IRGC, the attack destroyed a fighter jet maintenance center and a command and control facility.
The IRGC also said U.S. forces carried out airstrikes on several coastal bases and communication towers along Iran’s southern coast.

Iran further claimed it targeted Prince Hassan Air Base in Jordan. The IRGC said the strike destroyed a command and control center and hangars used for MQ-9 drones, yet the claims have not been independently verified.
Explosions were heard over Qatar capital, Doha, residents received emergency phone alerts urging them to stay inside and remain in safe places.
The United Arab Emirates said its air defenses were responding to missile and drone threats. The defense ministry said the sounds heard across the country were caused by ongoing interception operations.
Bahrain also activated air raid sirens. The country Interior Ministry urged residents to stay calm and move to the nearest safe location.
Meanwhile, three cities in Iran Khuzestan province came under attack. A security official said Hendijan, Mahshahr and Abadan were struck by what authorities described as enemy projectiles.
Separately, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said the crew of a container ship abandoned their vessel after it suffered damage near Oman. The agency said the ship caught fire after its rear section was hit about nine nautical miles east of Oman.
UKMTO said the crew safely evacuated into a lifeboat while military authorities continued to investigate the incident.
