GCWUS organizes seminar on AI-Ready Universities

SIALKOT, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Jun, 2026) Government College Women University Sialkot (GCWUS) organized a day-long seminar on AI-Ready Universities 'Assessing Digital Competencies and Responsible Use of AI-Assisted Academic Writing Tools across Disciplines in Punjab', a release of the varsity said on Sunday.

The seminar, under the Internal Research Grants 2026 project funded by ORIC organized at the Department of English.

The session was delivered by Dr. Muhammad Rashid Hafeez, Principal Investigator of the project “AI-Ready Universities: Assessing Digital Competencies and Responsible Use of AI-Assisted Academic Writing Tools across Disciplines in Punjab” Dr. Hafeez presented the key findings of his study, which surveyed 408 students and teachers across STEM, Social Sciences, Humanities, and Management Sciences in Punjab using a mixed-methods design.

He reported statistically significant disciplinary differences in digital competency and AI readiness, with Management Sciences students leading and STEM students scoring surprisingly lowest. The study revealed a critical gap between students' ethical awareness and their actual practices, and identified weak institutional governance as the Primary barrier to responsible AI integration. Dr. Hafeez concluded by presenting evidence-based recommendations for HEC-level policy intervention and university-wide AI literacy frameworks. The seminar was well-attended by faculty members, researchers, and students.The organizers acknowledged the financial support of ORIC, GCWUS, through the IRG-ORIC 2026 research grant.
