Four arrested, three shops sealed in anti-profiteering drive

SIALKOT, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th Mar, 2026) Additional Deputy Commissioner General Sialkot Naeem Bashir led a crackdown against profiteers in different markets of the city.

During the operation, four persons were arrested, three shops were sealed and heavy fines were imposed on nine shopkeepers for overcharging.

The official said strict action was being taken against those violating the officially notified prices and warned that a zero-tolerance policy would be enforced during Ramadan.

According to a DC Office spokesperson, the drive was launched on the special directives of Saba Asghar Ali and market inspections had been intensified across the district.

The spokesperson said 40,174 inspections had been conducted so far, while 22 shopkeepers were arrested, 15 shops sealed and fines amounting to Rs2.256 million were imposed on 1,006 profiteers. A case has also been registered under the price Act.

He added that daily market checking would continue to ensure the availability of essential commodities at government rates and provide maximum relief to the public.
