ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th Jun, 2026) Federal Minister for Human Rights and Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar has called for the formulation of a comprehensive United Nations (UN) Plan of Action to combat Islamophobia, reaffirming Pakistan's commitment to promoting religious freedom, interfaith harmony, and peaceful coexistence.
The minister welcomed the appointment of United Nations Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia, Miguel Ángel Moratinos, and congratulated him on assuming the responsibility, while appreciating his leadership in a message issued by his office.
Senator Tarar described the establishment of the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, observed annually on March 15, and the adoption of the related UN resolution as significant global milestones in efforts to address Islamophobia.

He also expressed deep concern over the increasing incidents of Islamophobia, hate speech, and attacks on Muslim places of worship across the world.
Senator Tarar appreciated Moratinos' efforts to protect the rights and religious freedoms of Muslims and other minorities in India and stressed the need for continued cooperation in this regard.
He further expressed Pakistan's desire to strengthen cooperation with the United Nations in combating Islamophobia and promoting interfaith dialogue and public awareness.
