District admin Khanewal decides to fortify flood preparedness measures

KHANEWAL, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Mar, 2026) The district administration of Khanewal has decided to further strengthen precautionary measures to effectively deal with any potential flood situation, keeping in view the damages caused by last year’s floods.

Deputy Commissioner Khanewal Maliha Rashid has taken the Irrigation, Highways, Mines, Buildings and other relevant departments on board to ensure timely and coordinated actions to minimize flood risks.

In this regard, the Deputy Commissioner visited flood protection embankments in Kot islam, Kund Sargana and Bhatinda subdivisions on Saturday and reviewed the safety arrangements in detail. During the visit to the Ravi River point at Kot Islam, she directed the immediate desilting of drains and assigned the task jointly to the Irrigation, Mines and Highways departments, instructing them to complete the work at the earliest.

She further directed that the progress of the desilting work will be reviewed again after one month.

Later, the Deputy Commissioner also visited Kund Sargana, where officers of the concerned departments briefed her about the ongoing work. She inspected the work being carried out to further strengthen the protective embankment and sought a comprehensive plan for future flood management measures.

Deputy Director Development Muzaffar Khan and other relevant officers were also present on the occasion.

Deputy Commissioner Maliha Rashid made it clear that no illegal construction will be allowed in flood zones and waterways, warning that strict action will be taken against any violations.

She added that, in line with the directives of the Government of Punjab, the process of desilting rivers, improving drainage systems and cleaning flood channels is being accelerated to ensure effective preparedness against any possible emergency situation.
