DERA ISMAIL KHAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd Jul, 2026) The district administration has launched a comprehensive drive to curb water theft and ensure the fair distribution of irrigation water in the CRBC Main Canal, aiming to safeguard farmers' rights and improve water availability, particularly for tail-end users.

The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Hikmatullah Khan to review the ongoing water shortage in the CRBC Main Canal. The meeting was attended by officials from the Irrigation Department, WAPDA CRBC, the district administration, and representatives of the farming community.

The officials informed the participants that the canal's water flow is currently below its designed capacity, resulting in severe shortages for farmers, especially those located at the tail-end of the canal.

The illegal outlets and water theft along the Right Bank were identified as the main factors contributing to the problem.

To address the issue, WAPDA CRBC and the Irrigation Department will jointly launch a daily "Clean-Up Operation" to remove illegal outlets, pumping sets, pipes, and unauthorized cuts. The authorities said the operation would be conducted without any discrimination, and strict legal action would be taken against anyone found involved in water theft.

Assistant Commissioners of Dera Ismail Khan, Paharpur, and Paroa have been assigned to supervise the operation within their respective jurisdictions, while the concerned departments will submit daily progress reports. The Irrigation Department will continue monitoring the canal to ensure equitable water distribution.

Deputy Commissioner Hikmatullah said that eliminating water theft would ensure farmers receive their rightful share of irrigation water, leading to higher agricultural productivity and contributing to the district's economic prosperity.
