DIKhan transport authority launches crackdown on overcharging, overcrowding

Dera Ismail Khan, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Jun, 2026) The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Dera Division on Saturday has launched a special crackdown against overcharging passengers and overcrowding in public transport vehicles across various routes.

The action was carried out on the directives of Secretary RTA Dera, Shaukat Iqbal, with monitoring teams inspecting a number of public transport vehicles operating on different routes in the division.

During the inspections, officials checked vehicles for compliance with officially notified fares and seating capacities. Passengers were also asked about fares being charged and the quality of facilities being provided during travel.

Legal action was initiated against transport owners and drivers found violating regulations related to excessive fares and carrying passengers beyond the approved seating capacity.

The monitoring teams also inspected ticketing counters at Dera and Karachi bus terminals to review compliance with government-approved fare schedules, issuance of tickets and passenger services.

The concerned staff at the bus terminals were directed to ensure strict implementation of official fare lists and provide better facilities to commuters.

Secretary RTA Dera Shaukat Iqbal said protecting passengers' rights, eliminating overcharging and curbing overcrowding in public transport remained among the authority's top priorities. He said operations against violators would continue without interruption to ensure safe, affordable and comfortable travel facilities for the public.
