DC, DPO review Muharram security arrangements at Safe City Control Room

BAHAWALPUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Jun, 2026) Deputy Commissioner Bahawalpur Syed Hassan Raza, along with District Police Officer Rana Abdul Wahab, visited the District Emergency Operation Centre and Safe City Authority Control Room to review security and monitoring arrangements for Muharram-ul-Haram, particularly Ashura and 8th Muharram processions.

During the visits, both officials reviewed arrangements made for monitoring processions and Majalis across the district and assessed the security measures in place. System Network Administrator Azeem Zeeshan and Additional Deputy Commissioner Headquarters Dr. Ayesha Khan briefed the deputy commissioner on the real-time monitoring system being used for surveillance of processions and Majalis through modern technology. The briefing informed that important activities across the district were being continuously monitored through advanced systems to ensure an immediate response in case of any emergency.

Officials informed the deputy commissioner that during Muharram-ul-Haram, a total of 250 processions and 575 Majalis would be held across Bahawalpur district. Among the processions, 7 were categorized as A-category, 5 as B-category and 238 as C-category, while among Majalis, 1 was A-category, 3 were B-category and 571 were C-category. The deputy commissioner directed the concerned departments to ensure foolproof security arrangements at all procession routes and Majalis venues, along with proper arrangements for cleanliness, lighting and medical facilities. He said maintaining law and order and providing the best possible facilities to mourners during Muharram remained the top priority of the district administration.

District Police Officer Rana Abdul Wahab informed that additional police personnel had been deployed at sensitive locations and continuous monitoring of processions and Majalis was being carried out.

He said all law enforcement agencies were fully active to maintain peace and security during Muharram.

During the visit to the Safe City Control Room, Safe City Incharge Kashif Abdullah briefed the officials about the modern surveillance system, camera network, Muharram security plan and the mechanism for registering and responding to calls received through different helplines. The deputy commissioner inspected the advanced monitoring system installed at the control room and reviewed CCTV-based surveillance arrangements for processions and Majalis. He also examined the emergency response mechanism, coordination system and information-sharing process among different departments.

Expressing satisfaction over the arrangements, Syed Hassan Raza said ensuring peace, protecting citizens’ lives and property, and providing a secure environment to mourners were the foremost priorities of the administration and law enforcement agencies. He said modern technology and effective monitoring systems were being utilized to further strengthen security arrangements during Muharram.

The deputy commissioner directed officers and personnel deployed at the control rooms to perform their duties with utmost vigilance, responsibility and dedication, and remain fully prepared to deal with any emergency situation. He emphasized that continuous monitoring of all processions and Majalis must be ensured so that any untoward incident could be addressed promptly. Syed Hassan Raza said the district administration, police and other relevant institutions were working in close coordination and utilizing all available resources to provide citizens with a peaceful, safe and secure environment during Muharram-ul-Haram.
