RAWALPINDI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Jun, 2026) Riphah International University on Friday organised an awareness seminar on cyber security, artificial intelligence (AI) and digital journalism, bringing together academics, journalists, media practitioners and students.

The seminar was jointly arranged by Riphah FM Radio Station, ORIC and the Young Journalists Association to highlight emerging technological challenges and prepare young journalists for the evolving digital media landscape.

Speakers emphasised the growing importance of cyber security awareness amid rising digital threats and rapid technological advancements.

Cyber security expert Saeed Najeeb-ul-Hassan, speaking on “How to Prevent Yourself from Cybercrime,” said cyber threats were becoming increasingly sophisticated and advised users to adopt strong passwords, enable two-factor authentication and avoid sharing sensitive information on unverified platforms.

Professor Dr Hafeez-ur-Rehman, in his talk titled “Hack the Hacker: Cyber Hygiene for All,” said digital hygiene had become essential in modern life, adding that responsible use of digital devices and social media could significantly reduce cyber risks.

Senior journalist Aamir Saeed Abbasi highlighted changing media trends and the increasing role of digital platforms in news dissemination.

PTV News anchor Mahwar Qureshi, speaking on “Digital Journalism and Challenges,” said while digital media had improved access to information, it had also raised concerns regarding misinformation, fact-checking and journalistic ethics.

Assistant Professor Dr Rashid Ammar, in a session on AI literacy, said artificial intelligence was transforming sectors including education, healthcare, business and media, stressing that basic understanding of AI had become necessary across professions.

Dr Zubair, in his remarks, discussed the role of AI, cyber security and journalism in building public trust, underscoring the need to counter misinformation in an increasingly digital environment.

Representatives of the Young Journalists Association, including President Muhammad Yousaf Khan, Chairman Malik Zubair Awan and Secretary Coordination Anila Bashir, also attended the seminar.

Speakers from the association said the initiative aimed to provide training and professional exposure to young journalists to help them adapt to evolving media requirements.

Riphah FM Radio Station in-charge Irfan Bhatti said collaboration between academia and media institutions was vital to equip youth with modern digital skills and promote responsible journalism.
