Crackdown on profiteers in Mirpur: shopkeepers booked, strict action warned for violating Ramadan sanctity

MIRPUR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th Mar, 2026) In a swift and decisive crackdown against illicit profiteering, Tehsildar Mirpur Chaudhry Imran Yousuf conducted surprise inspections in Mian Muhammad Road, Hall Road, and Chungi areas, booking several shopkeepers for overcharging essential commodities during Ramadan. Acting promptly on government directives, the inspection team fined violators for defying officially fixed rates; consequently, authorities issued stern warnings against exploiting consumers during the holy month.

Leading a vigilant price control team, Tehsildar Imran Yousuf thoroughly examined rate lists and sales practices, netting multiple traders involved in unlawful profiteering. Moreover, the violators were given a final warning and directed to strictly adhere to the government-notified prices. They were also instructed to prominently display official rate lists at conspicuous places in their shops and transparently present them to customers upon demand, District Information Officer Javed Malik stated.

Meanwhile, Municipal Magistrate Chaudhry Muhammad Mukhtar, accompanied by his enforcement staff, separately inspected price control measures in Bin Khurman Bazaar. During the rigorous inspection, he cautioned traders against selling overpriced goods, using fake rate lists, or offering defective items. Furthermore, shopkeepers were categorically directed to comply fully with price regulations to protect consumers from unfair practices.

Authorities emphasized that any further violation would invite stringent punitive action, particularly in view of the sanctity and spirit of Ramadan. Therefore, officials reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to ensuring fair pricing, safeguarding public interest, and maintaining strict market discipline across Mirpur district throughout the sacred month.
