Commissioner reviews healthcare, development projects in Bahawalnagar, Chishtian, Hasilpur

BAHAWALPUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th May, 2026) Commissioner Bahawalpur Division Irfan Ali Kathia paid detailed visits to Bahawalnagar, Chishtian and Hasilpur to inspect ongoing healthcare, infrastructure and agricultural development projects, while reviewing the pace and quality of work on various public welfare schemes.

During his visit, the Commissioner inspected different sections and development works of the Mother and Child Hospital and the under-construction Medical College. Zulfiqar Ahmad Bhoun, along with officials from the Health Department, Buildings Department and other relevant institutions, accompanied him during the visit.

The Commissioner reviewed various blocks of the medical college, construction standards, pace of work and available facilities. He directed the concerned officials to complete the project within the stipulated timeframe while maintaining high construction standards so that modern healthcare and quality medical education facilities could be made available to the public at the earliest. He also visited different wards of the Mother and Child Hospital and inspected healthcare facilities, cleanliness arrangements and patient services. He directed hospital management to ensure the provision of quality medical treatment and further improve healthcare standards.

Deputy Commissioner Zulfiqar Ahmad Bhoun briefed the Commissioner regarding the progress of development projects and the hospital’s performance.

Expressing satisfaction over the ongoing work, the Commissioner directed all departments to further strengthen coordination for timely completion of projects.

During his visit to Chishtian, Commissioner Irfan Ali Kathia, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Zulfiqar Ahmad Bhoun, the Assistant Commissioner Chishtian, Muhammad Jameel Ghouri and other officials, reviewed ongoing development projects, roads, streets, sewerage systems, cleanliness arrangements and other public welfare schemes in detail.

The Commissioner expressed strong displeasure over the use of substandard material in some development projects and issued strict directives to contractors and officials to ensure the use of quality material and adherence to approved specifications. He warned that negligence, poor workmanship or compromise on standards would not be tolerated under any circumstances in line with the Punjab government’s policy. He stressed that all development schemes should be completed on time to ensure better public facilities and directed officials to maintain continuous monitoring of quality, pace and transparency.

The Commissioner also visited the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Chishtian, where he inspected various wards, the emergency unit, medicine availability, sanitation arrangements and healthcare facilities being provided to patients.

He interacted with patients and their attendants and directed hospital administration to ensure the provision of the best possible medical treatment facilities. Later, he inspected a wheat procurement center and reviewed facilities being provided to farmers, the procurement process and overall arrangements. He instructed officials to address farmers’ concerns on a priority basis and ensure complete transparency in the wheat procurement process.

Commissioner Kathia also attended a Farmers Convention where he stated that the Punjab government is taking practical measures for the prosperity of farmers. He said that farmers are the backbone of the national economy and development of the agriculture sector remains a top government priority.

Addressing the convention, Director Agriculture Bahawalpur Division Muhammad Jameel Ghouri said the Agriculture Department is providing full guidance to farmers through modern agricultural technology, quality seeds and farmer-friendly policies. He urged farmers to adopt modern farming techniques to increase per-acre crop production.

Deputy Commissioner Zulfiqar Ahmad Bhoun also briefed the Commissioner on ongoing development projects, hospital arrangements, wheat procurement campaign and facilities being provided to farmers.

Expressing satisfaction over the progress, Commissioner Irfan Ali Kathia reiterated that transparency and quality in all public welfare projects would be ensured at every level.

Later, the Commissioner visited Hasilpur, where the Assistant Commissioner briefed him on ongoing projects related to sewerage, stormwater drainage systems, street pavement and overall infrastructure development in the city. Officials informed the Commissioner that under the Punjab Development Program, a mega project worth over Rs81 billion is underway in Hasilpur, including expansion of the sewerage network, establishment of modern drainage systems, and construction and rehabilitation of wastewater treatment plants. According to the briefing, the project includes the development of over 90 kilometers of sewerage networks along with drainage points, modern treatment plants and disposal stations. Upon completion, the project is expected to significantly reduce waterlogging during rainfall, improve drainage issues and help control environmental pollution.

The Commissioner directed that all development projects be completed within the given timeline without compromising on quality. He emphasized that all available resources should be utilized to resolve public issues promptly and transparency must be ensured throughout the execution of the schemes. He further instructed officials to improve both the pace and quality of work so that citizens could receive relief as soon as possible.
