Commissioner reviews Eid-ul-Azha cleanliness arrangements

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd May, 2026) Commissioner Lahore Division Marryam Khan said that strict action, including a Rs. 50,000 fine, would be imposed on those dumping sacrificial waste and animal remains in drains, canals, open plots and streets during Eid-ul-Azha across Lahore Division.

She said this while chairing a meeting to review Eid-ul-Azha cleanliness arrangements, here on Saturday. Deputy Commissioner Lahore Muhammad Ali Ijaz and Chief Executive Officer of Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) briefed the meeting on operational preparations.

The meeting was informed that a complete digital monitoring system would remain active during Eid-ul-Azha across Lahore Division, while mechanical resources had already been deployed for surveillance and sanitation operations. Authorities said over 1.5 million environmentally friendly waste bags would be distributed in Lahore and more than 850,000 in other districts of the division.

Officials further informed the meeting that 300 camps would be established in Lahore and 454 camps in Kasur, Nankana Sahib and Sheikhupura for public complaint redressal and free distribution of waste bags.

Addressing the meeting, the commissioner directed deputy commissioners of all four districts and LWMC officials to ensure effective monitoring through a central control room. She said surveillance in Lahore would be carried out through Safe City cameras and drones.

Marryam Khan said around 25,000 workers in Lahore and 37,000 across the division would participate in the Eid cleanliness operation. She added that 452 applicants involved in collecting sacrificial hides had been issued NOCs, while scrutiny of another 82 applications was under process.

The meeting was informed that trading activities were continuing at 30 cattle markets across the division, including seven in Lahore. Authorities were also distributing 2.3 million plastic bags through cattle markets, special camps and door-to-door campaigns.

The commissioner appealed to citizens to cooperate with sanitation teams and hand over animal waste to cleanliness workers instead of dumping it in public places.

The meeting was attended by DC Lahore Muhammad Ali Ijaz, Additional Commissioner Rao Abdul Jabbar, CEO LWMC and deputy commissioners of all districts.
