Commissioner presented policy briefs on urban development, sustainable infrastructure

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd Jul, 2026) Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) Sarhad University of Science and Information Technology (SUIT) and Department of Civil Engineering on Thursday presented three policy briefs on key urban development and infrastructure challenges to Commissioner Peshawar Division, Riaz Khan Mahsud.

The policy briefs focused on enhancing urban resilience against natural and environmental hazards, environmentally sustainable restoration of board Bazaar Canal and adoption of low-carbon infrastructure technologies.

The recommendations were based on scientific research and practical evidence and aimed to strengthen evidence-based policymaking while promoting closer collaboration between academic institutions and government departments.

Speaking on the occasion, Commissioner Peshawar Division appreciated the university's research initiatives and emphasized the importance of integrating academic research and policy recommendations into government planning. He stated that such collaboration is essential for achieving sustainable development, improving urban governance and enhancing public welfare.

He reaffirmed the commitment of district and divisional administration to cement partnerships with academic institutions to develop practical and long term solutions to public challenges.
