Commercial Market beautification project 80pc completed, says Commissioner Ghani

RAWALPINDI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Jul, 2026) Commissioner Rawalpindi Salman Ghani on Wednesday conducted a detailed visit to the Commercial Market Beautification Project to review the pace of work, revealing that 80 percent of the development phase has already been completed.

During his visit, the he interacted with local shopkeepers and shoppers to gather on-site feedback. He highlighted that the project, executed under the special directives of CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif, is aimed at introducing a modern, pleasant, and highly functional transformation to the city's urban landscape. He termed the beautification plan a "game-changer" that would dramatically upgrade the city’s aesthetics, regulate traffic congestion, facilitate pedestrians, and significantly boost local economic activities.

Accompanied by senior officials, the Commissioner inspected various ongoing tasks, including utility line shifting, footpath construction, drainage rehabilitation, street lighting installation, road carpeting, and dedicated parking layouts.

Earlier, the Chief Officer of the Municipal Corporation briefed the Commissioner, confirming that the project is in its final leg with the remaining 20 percent of work moving at an accelerated pace.

Commissioner Salman Ghani directed all relevant departments to maintain close interdepartmental coordination to ensure the seamless execution of the remaining work without any bureaucratic delays. Emphasizing the administration's zero-tolerance policy on substandard development, he warned that no compromise would be made on the quality of materials and construction standards.

Further, the commissioner directed the executing agencies to minimize disruption for traders and visitors during the final construction phase by deploying effective alternative traffic management plans. He instructed that wide pedestrian walkways, an upgraded sewerage system, uniform shop fronts, green belts, and landscaping be prioritized to ensure the public receives the maximum benefit of the project upon its formal opening.

Assistant Commissioner City Eman Zafar, Chief Officer Municipal Corporation, and representatives from the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA), WASA, IESCO, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), and various telecommunication companies were also present during the inspection.
