LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Jun, 2026) In a major youth-friendly initiative under the vision of Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Punjab government introduced a Juvenile Permit facility, allowing youngsters aged 16 to 18 years to legally ride motorcycles without waiting until the age of 18.
According to traffic police officials, the new facility aimed to encourage safe and lawful driving among young people while promoting compliance with traffic regulations.
Under the scheme, adolescents aged between 16 and 18 years became eligible to obtain a Juvenile Permit after fulfilling the prescribed requirements. The permit fee was fixed at Rs1,000 for applicants aged 16 years and Rs500 for those aged 17 to 18 years.
Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO), Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi, said that holders of Juvenile Permits would not be allowed to ride motorcycles at speeds exceeding 60 kilometres per hour.

The CTO advised applicants seeking Juvenile Permits to bring their Smart Card, Form-B, and be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Parents or guardians were also required to provide a copy of their Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) along with a recent photograph.
He said the initiative was aimed at promoting responsible driving habits among youth, ensuring adherence to traffic laws, and strengthening the culture of road safety across the province.
