Chiniot court jails attempted murder convict for five years

CHINIOT, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd Jul, 2026) A local court in Chiniot on Thursday sentenced a man to five years in prison after convicting him in an attempted murder case, marking another prosecution success claimed by Punjab Police as part of its drive to improve criminal investigations.

Judicial Magistrate Section 30 Lalian handed down the sentence to Muhammad Usman after finding him guilty in a case registered at Chenab Nagar Police Station under Sections 324 and 337-F(iii) of the Pakistan Penal Code. In addition to the prison term, the court also imposed a fine on the convict.

Naveed Atif said the conviction reflected the Punjab government's emphasis on strengthening investigations and ensuring that suspects involved in serious crimes are brought to justice. He said investigators presented strong evidence before the court, resulting in the successful prosecution.

The police official added that the outcome was in line with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to improve the quality of criminal investigations and enhance the effectiveness of the justice system by securing convictions through evidence-based policing.
