PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Jun, 2026) Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sohail Khan Afridi, here Wednesday thanked all members of the provincial assembly, the finance adviser, relevant departments, and the team involved in preparing the 2026–27 budget.
KP CM saluted everyone for formulating an excellent budget. Addressing the provincial assembly after the budget’s approval, the Chief Minister said that provincial tax collections were 66 billion rupees in 2024, increased to 93 billion rupees in the government’s first year, and have now reached 129 billion rupees.
He added that a target of 182 billion rupees has been set. He called for release of all pending share of KP under the National Finance Commission (NFC).
He said that resources had been allocated to all priority sectors in the 2026–27 budget. Last year’s development budget stood at 195 billion rupees and has now been increased to 235 billion rupees.
Additionally, 40 billion rupees have been allocated to the police force to strengthen law and order and enhance its operational capacity.
The Chief Minister announced special development packages for Peshawar, Hazara, Mardan, tribal districts, and the southern districts, stating that all districts of the province would receive their fair share without discrimination.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>He identified the Peshawar-to-Dera Motorway, Dir Motorway, Swat Expressway, and Kumrat Main Road as priority projects. He said that the largest investments had been made in the education and health sectors, and that Safar Card would be introduced to provide free travel on the BRT system for senior citizens.
During his speech, the Chief Minister called his security guard, Arif Khattak, onto the stage and praised him, saying that he had provided excellent security to PTI founder. Opposition members responded with loud slogans, which were met by counter-slogans from government members, creating a tense atmosphere in the assembly. Proceedings were disrupted by the uproar for some time.
The Chief Minister further stated that the provincial government would use its own resources for the development of the tribal districts and southern regions.
He expressed confidence that practical work on development projects would begin in July and that the fiscal year 2026–27 would prove to be a year of peace, development, and prosperity for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
