KARACHI: Youm-e-Ashura is being observed across the country today (Friday) with deep religious reverence and strict security arrangements, as mourning processions commemorate the supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A) and the martyrs of Karbala.
The 10th of Muharram is being marked nationwide, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, to honour the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A), who, along with 72 family members and companions, was martyred at Karbala for the principles of truth, justice, and righteousness.
Mourning processions of Zuljanah were taken out in major cities and towns across the country, following traditional routes and attended by large numbers of participants.
Strict security arrangements have been put in place nationwide, with police and Rangers deployed along procession routes. CCTV surveillance and monitoring systems are active at sensitive locations, while water and milk stalls have been set up for mourners.
In Karachi, the main procession started from Nishtar Park Chowrangi and will conclude at Hussainiya Irania Imambargah in Kharadar.
In Lahore, thousands of mourners participated in the central procession from Nisar Haveli, which is passing through its traditional route and will end at Imambargah Gamay Shah. Over 20,000 police personnel have been deployed for security.
