NAWABSHAH, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th May, 2026) Chairman District Zakat and Ushr Committee Nawabshah, Chaudhry Zafar Hussain Arain, here on Monday chaired a meeting of the committee and emphasis on ensuring transparency.

The meeting conducted detailed discussions regarding selection process of local Zakat committees across the district. Matters related to distribution and disbursement of Zakat budget for the second installment of the fiscal year 2025–26 were also reviewed.

Meeting approved funds for various welfare initiatives, including stipends for students of religious seminaries, healthcare support, marriage assistance for unmarried women, and social welfare and rehabilitation programs.

The meeting also decided that deserving individuals would be identified through a transparent process to ensure timely financial assistance. Addressing the participants, Chaudhry Zafar said fair and transparent distribution of Zakat funds would be ensured so that financial assistance should be reached to truly deserving persons.

He also directed relevant authorities to make the Zakat system more effective and efficient. A detailed discussion was also held regarding subsistence allowance beneficiaries, with instructions to ensure transparent identification and prompt financial support.

District Zakat Officer Shaheed Benazirabad, Abdul Latif Channar, informed the meeting that the first installment of annual funds for 2025–26 had already been disbursed, while the second installment has now been released.

Under this, an amount of Rs. 828,250 would be distributed among students of five registered madrassas in the district.

He said that a total of 132 applications were received under the marriage grant scheme, out of which 66 cases have been approved after thorough scrutiny. Each approved beneficiary would receive Rs. 30,000.

Similarly under the rehabilitation program, 83 cases have been approved, and each beneficiary would receive Rs. 10,000, which would be transferred to their bank accounts.

It was also highlighted that Rs. 8,28,000 was available under the social welfare fund; however, due to the absence of a Darul Aman and a permanent residential center for persons with disabilities in Nawabshah, these funds often lapse. The meeting decided to formulate a plan under the supervision of committee members to provide funds to taluka hospitals Health Department for the treatment and medicines of underprivileged patients.

It was further resolved that all Zakat and Ushr funds would be distributed strictly on merit to ensure that deserving families receive their due support. Members of the District Zakat and Ushr Committee, constituted by the Sindh Zakat Council for Shaheed Benazirabad, assured their full cooperation in ensuring effective functioning of the committee and transparent distribution of funds. The meeting was attended by Ali Haider Shah, Abdul Ghaffar Jatoi, Sadaruddin Memon, Shaheed Ahmed Saeed, Syed Shamim Haider, Qamar-un-Nisa Dhamrah, Moran Siyal, Office Superintendent DC Office Asad Ali Memon, Additional District Health Officer Dr. Mansoor Soomro, Information Officer Aijaz Ali Teevino, and other committee members.
