Body formed for safety audit at PDP construction sites

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Feb, 2026) The Punjab government has decided to form a committee, headed by deputy commissioners concerned for safety audit at Punjab Development Programme (PDP) construction sites.

The committee will also include officers of the Local Government Department. The committee formation decision was taken during a review meeting of Punjab Development Program (PDP) chaired by Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique on Thursday,

The provincial minister directed that the instructions issued for excavation sites should be strictly implemented. Secretary Local Government Shakeel Ahmed Mian and Special Secretary Asia Gul also attended the meeting.

PDP Project Director Brigadier (retd) Asad Mahmood briefed the provincial minister on the progress made so far in 46 cities.

Minister for Local Government Zeeshan Rafique expressed satisfaction that Rs12 billion has been saved after transparent tendering for 46 cities. He said that work award has been made for the purchase of 52 suction and 52 jetting machines.

"In addition, 100 de-watering sets and 82 de-silting machines will also be used", he added. Zeeshan Rafique said that work has started on the construction of stormwater drainage and underground storage tanks.

"The total length of sewers in the cities included in the program will be 5397 kilometers, while drains will be 181 kilometers long", he observed. He said that 67 underground tanks will be built under the PDP. Moreover 33,160 manhole covers will also be installed in different cities.

The Minister for Local Government said that 56 new disposal stations will be constructed and the existing 61 stations will be rehabilitated.

"Solarization of, he went on, "all disposal stations is also part of the PDP. 6100 kilometers of streets and roads will be constructed and renovated in the cities".

He said that the wastewater treatment plants will have the capacity to filter 323 million gallons of water daily. "The PDP is a comprehensive solution program to the problems of cities that have been going on for years", he assured.
