A banking court in Islamabad on Thursday reserved its verdict on the pre-arrest bail applications of Saraj Ahmad and Faisal Qazi, the co-accused in the high-profile foreign funding case against the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and others

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th Apr, 2026) A banking court in Islamabad on Thursday reserved its verdict on the pre-arrest bail applications of Saraj Ahmad and Faisal Qazi, the co-accused in the high-profile foreign funding case against the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and others.

Judge Abdul Ghafoor Kakar heard the case. During the proceedings, Special Prosecutor Wasiq Malik, along with defence counsels Shah Khawar and others, appeared before the court.

Advocate Shah Khawar, representing Saraj Ahmad, argued that pre-arrest bail had already been granted to three other co-accused in the case. He further submitted that his client has not been directly named in the First Information Report (FIR).

Subsequently, the defence counsel presented arguments on the pre-arrest bail application of Faisal Qazi. Following the conclusion of these arguments, Special Prosecutor Wasiq Malik submitted that approximately Rs. 200 million had been deposited in an account named "Naya Pakistan."

There is no such thing as a 'merchandise account' for a political party," the prosecutor argued. He alleged that Faisal Qazi facilitated banking transactions and that PTI was presented as a company at the time of these transactions.

Is Tehreek-e-Insaf a company, he asked.

The prosecutor further informed the court that according to the bank, the final approval authority rested with the accused, Faisal Qazi. He has been named as an accused in this case for specific reasons," Malik added.

During the hearing, Advocate Fatehullah Barki, representing the PTI founder, made a mention of seeking assistance from ChatGPT. He complained that the charge sheet had still not been provided to the defence.

Judge Abdul Ghafoor Kakar noted that the charge sheet in the case had arrived. The Special Prosecutor confirmed that the charge sheet had been submitted and was undergoing scrutiny by the registrar.

Advocate Barki then questioned that under which law can the registrar scrutinize the charge sheet? I have also asked ChatGPT about the registrar's power of scrutiny — and ChatGPT could not tell me either." He asked the prosecutor to explain the basis of the scrutiny.

The prosecutor responded, "I am not here to teach you. You are talking about ChatGPT." He then left the courtroom.

The court subsequently adjourned the hearing of the foreign funding case until May 11.
