Banks must ensure uninterrupted access to digital payment services.

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced extended banking hours to help taxpayers pay government duties and taxes through bank branches, Over-the-Counter (OTC) services, and digital payment channels.

According to an SBP circular issued on Wednesday, all commercial bank branches that normally open on Saturdays, along with National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) branches handling customs collections, will remain open from 9:00am to 5:00pm on June 27 at the request of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

SBP also directed commercial banks and NBP branches dealing with customs collections to operate for longer hours on the last working days of the fiscal year. On Monday, branches will remain open until 8:00pm, while on Tuesday they will stay open until 10:00pm. NBP branches handling customs payments will continue operations until 11:59pm on Tuesday.

Banks have been instructed to keep the relevant branches open for as long as needed to support the special clearing of government transactions through NIFT.

The central bank further said that banks must ensure uninterrupted access to digital payment services, including internet banking, mobile banking apps, ATMs, and other online platforms, so taxpayers can conveniently pay government duties and taxes.
