QUETTA, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Jun, 2026) The Balochistan government is taking a vital step to protect forest resources, prevent illegal logging and timber smuggling in the province and imposed a ban on the transportation, delivery and transfer of all types of wood, timber, logs and other forest products across the province for 90 days.
According to Additional Chief Secretary Home, Muhammad Hamza Shafqat, this decision has been taken under Section 144 of the Criminal Code in view of public interest and protection of natural resources, the ban would be effective immediately and the order could be remained in force in all districts of Balochistan province.
He said that a temporary ban on the movement of timber and forest products was deemed necessary to prevent illegal movement of forest resources in the province and ensure environmental protection, the aim of this measure was to ensure the conservation of forests and sustainable use of natural resources.
According to Muhammad Hamza Shafqat, all deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners, police, Frontier Corps and other law enforcement agencies have been authorized to stop and seize any vehicle, truck, trailer or other means of transport violating this order and take relevant legal action.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>He clarified that action would be taken against those violating the ban under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code and other relevant laws, during the ban, no vehicles loaded with timber or forest products would be released on the basis of any permit, pass or authorization.
He said that only in exceptional cases related to public interest or government needs, the concerned Administrative Secretary would be able to send a special exemption request in writing to the Home Department.
However, the ban would remain in full force until the Home Department received formal written approval. The Home Department Balochistan had directed the relevant administration and law enforcement agencies to ensure strict implementation of the order so that conservation of forest resources, restoration of ecological balance and effective prevention of illegal movement of natural resources could be made possible.
