LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 12th Apr, 2026) The city recorded an average Air Quality Index (AQI) of 54, placing it in the moderate category, indicating that air quality was generally acceptable for the majority of the population. However, individuals who are unusually sensitive to air pollution may experience mild health effects under such conditions.
Despite the relatively moderate AQI level, the concentration of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) remained a concern, measured at 1.8 times higher than the annual guideline value set by the World Health Organization.
Elevated PM2.5 levels are associated with potential health risks, particularly for vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing respiratory or cardiovascular conditions.
Overall, while the air quality showed some improvement compared to higher pollution episodes, it still exceeded safe international standards, highlighting the need for sustained measures to control emissions and protect public health.
