Attock court hands down double death sentence in Basal double murder case

In a decisive verdict, an Additional Sessions Court in Jand on Thursday awarded a double death sentence to a man convicted in a brutal double murder case registered at Basal Police Station

ATTOCK, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Apr, 2026) In a decisive verdict, an Additional Sessions Court in Jand on Thursday awarded a double death sentence to a man convicted in a brutal double murder case registered at Basal Police Station. Presiding judge Raja Jahanzeb Akhtar ruled that the prosecution had proven its case beyond doubt, culminating in the conviction of the accused after years of legal proceedings.

The convict, Shahid Habib, a resident of Dhok Walian (Dakhli Dumeel), was found guilty of killing two individuals in a cold-blooded attack. According to the prosecution, he opened indiscriminate fire using a 12-bore repeater gun, resulting in the deaths of both victims in what the court described as a ruthless act of violence.

The court handed down two separate death sentences—one for each count of murder—along with a fine of Rs500,000 per count. The judgment reflects the gravity of the crime and underscores the judiciary’s firm stance against violent offences, particularly those involving premeditated killings.

Case records reveal that the accused had evaded arrest for 13 years following the incident and was declared a proclaimed offender. His eventual apprehension marked a turning point in the case, enabling law enforcement agencies to bring him before the court. The judge noted that compelling evidence and cogent arguments presented by the prosecution played a pivotal role in securing the conviction.
