The National Highways and Motorway Police said that a passenger bus travelling from Karachi to Buner had stopped along the roadside when a van coming from Rawalpindi to Dir crashed into it from behind. The impact of the collision was severe, leaving the van completely damaged.

Rescue teams and motorway police personnel reached the site soon after the incident was reported and shifted the deceased and injured to the Mardan Medical Complex for medical treatment. Authorities confirmed that the victims included men, women, elderly passengers, and children.

The preliminary findings suggest that the accident occurred due to reckless driving and alleged negligence on the part of the van driver, who failed to notice the stationary bus on the roadside.
