AJK observes 38th death anniversary of K.H. Khurshid with solemn tributes

The 38th death anniversary of veteran Kashmiri leader Khursheed Hassan Khurshid was observed across Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday with solemn ceremonies and renewed pledges to carry forward his lifelong struggle for the Kashmir cause, the local correspondent of APP reported this from Mirpur on Wednesday

MIRPUR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Mar, 2026) The 38th death anniversary of veteran Kashmiri leader Khursheed Hassan Khurshid was observed across Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday with solemn ceremonies and renewed pledges to carry forward his lifelong struggle for the Kashmir cause, the local correspondent of APP reported this from Mirpur on Wednesday.

According to the details, the main commemorative ceremony was held at the mausoleum of the late leader in Mirpur, where special prayers, Quran Khawani, and a tribute gathering were organized to honor his services. Khurshid, who also served as the personal secretary to Muhammad Ali Jinnah, is widely remembered as a key figure in the Kashmir freedom movement.

Addressing the gathering, speakers including Manzoor Qadir Dar, Shoukat Javed Mir, and Mushtaq ul islam paid rich tributes to Khurshid’s lifelong struggle for securing the right to self-determination for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Participants from different parts of AJK and Pakistan visited the mausoleum, laid floral wreaths, and offered Fateha for the departed soul and the martyrs of Kashmir.

Speakers also urged the government of Pakistan to raise the Kashmir issue at the United Nations Security Council to ensure a peaceful resolution of the long-standing dispute. They emphasized that a plebiscite in accordance with UN resolutions remained the internationally recognized path to determine the future of the region.

Similar commemorative gatherings were also held in Mirpur under the auspices of the Jammu Kashmir Liberation League and Pakistan Peoples Party (Shaheed Bhutto) AJK chapter. Speakers including Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed Mughal, Muhammad Asif Jiraal, Irfan ul Haq Saleemi, and Chaudhry Munir Hussain Advocate reiterated the need for a peaceful settlement of the Kashmir issue in line with the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

They also stressed that a just resolution of the dispute would pave the way for lasting peace and socio-economic progress in South Asia, noting that the international community recognizes the settlement of the Kashmir issue as essential for regional stability.
