AJK celebrates Eid-ul-Adha with religious fervour and devotion

MIRPUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th May, 2026) People across Azad Jammu and Kashmir celebrated Eid-ul-Adha on Wednesday with traditional religious zeal and fervour, reaffirming their commitment to Islamic teachings and the spirit of sacrifice. The Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir had announced a three-day public holiday from May 26 to 28 to mark the occasion across the liberated territory.

The day began with special prayers in mosques for the unity and solidarity of the Muslim Ummah, peace and prosperity of Pakistan and AJK, and the early liberation of oppressed Muslim territories, including Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir. Eid congregations were held in all ten districts of AJK, including Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, Kotli, Bhimber, Bagh, Rawalakot, Haveli and Neelum Valley, where worshippers offered Eid prayers at mosques, Eidgahs and open grounds.

The largest Eid congregation in the AJK capital was held at the Central Eidgah in Muzaffarabad, attended by hundreds of worshippers.

Religious scholars and khateebs highlighted the significance of Eid-ul-Adha and the spirit of sacrifice demonstrated by Hazrat Ibrahim (AS). Speakers also expressed concern over restrictions on Eid prayers and religious activities in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, while reiterating solidarity with the Kashmiri people.

Later, Muslims performed the ritual sacrifice of animals including camels, cows, sheep and goats in accordance with Islamic traditions. Acting AJK President Chaudhry Lateef Akbar and AJK Prime Minister Faisal Mumtaz Rathore celebrated Eid in Muzaffarabad and Haveli respectively, where they condemned alleged human rights violations in occupied Kashmir and reaffirmed support for the Kashmiri freedom movement. Meanwhile, authorities made foolproof security arrangements at mosques, Eidgahs and Imambargahs across AJK to ensure peaceful Eid congregations.
