LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th Jun, 2026) The Lahore district administration has conducted 124,080 inspections over the past month as part of its ongoing crackdown against overpricing, taking action against 2,019 violators, imposing fines of more than Rs 5.8 million, sealing 66 business outlets, and initiating prosecution against 108 serious offenders.
The action was taken to ensure the availability of essential food items at government-notified prices and curb profiteering across the provincial capital.
Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali Ijaz reviewed the city’s market monitoring mechanism and agricultural supply chain after taking notice of complaints regarding overpricing. He directed assistant commissioners and price control magistrates to remain in the field and ensure strict implementation of official price lists at all markets, bazaars and shops.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>The district administration reported that the supply of essential vegetables remained satisfactory, with 54 truckloads of potatoes, 39 truckloads of onions and 36 truckloads of tomatoes arriving at wholesale markets. The DC instructed officials to closely monitor supplies to prevent hoarding and artificial shortages.
DC Muhammad Ali Ijaz warned that overpricing complaints would not be tolerated and directed authorities to take strict action against violators. He said hoarders attempting to create artificial shortages would be arrested in accordance with the law and instructed officials to ensure that official price lists were prominently displayed at all commercial outlets.
