163rd Urs of Baba Bankhandi Maharaj begins at Sadhu Bela Temple

SUKKUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th Jun, 2026) The three day religious and spiritual fair marking the 163rd Urs of Baba Bankhandi Maharaj inaugurated here on Tuesday at the historic and internationally renowned "Sadhu Bela Temple" on Bandar Road, Sukkur, amid deep devotion and religious fervour.

The annual Urs, organised by the Hindu community, would conclude in the coming days with final rituals. The Chairman and Secretary of the Evacuee Trust Property board (ETPB) would attend as chief guests.

Diwan Chand Chawla was overseeing arrangements for the fair. The Sukkur district administration and the ETPB have made special arrangements for accommodation, langar, security and other facilities for pilgrims. Police and other security agencies have put in place foolproof security measures.

Thousands of Hindu pilgrims have arrived at Sadhu Bela from across Sindh and other cities, including Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Quetta, Bahawalpur, Multan, Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas.

During the three day event, recitations from the Bhagavad Gita, bhajans, pooja path, havan, religious prayers, spiritual gatherings and special supplications would be held.

Speakers were highlighting Baba Bankhandi Maharaj’s teachings of humanity, love, peace, brotherhood, tolerance and interfaith harmony.

Located on an island in the River Indus, Sadhu Bela Temple is counted among the oldest and most sacred Hindu religious sites in the subcontinent. Baba Bankhandi Maharaj established the site as a spiritual centre in the 19th century, where devotees from the Hindu community continue to gather with reverence.

Every year, thousands of Hindu pilgrims from across Pakistan visit Sadhu Bela on his Urs to perform religious rites, attend Gita recitations, and offer special prayers for peace, prosperity, development, interfaith harmony and stability in Pakistan.

According to the organisers, the fair would conclude on the final day with special pooja, collective prayers and religious ceremonies.
