Security has been stepped up across Dera Ghazi Khan district as authorities prepare for the concluding days of Ashura-e-Muharram with 37 additional pickets set up and Pakistan Army and Rangers on alert to help police and administration for Muharram peace

DG KHAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Jun, 2026) Security has been stepped up across Dera Ghazi Khan district as authorities prepare for the concluding days of Ashura-e-Muharram with 37 additional pickets set up and Pakistan Army and Rangers on alert to help police and administration for Muharram peace.

According to District Police Officer (DPO), comprehensive security blanket has been thrown over district to safeguard religious gatherings and processions.

The DPO said that nine (9) additional police pickets have been established on entry and exit routes connecting Dera Ghazi Khan with Trimman, Sakhi Sarwar, Choti Bala, Dera Ismail Khan and the Koh-e-Suleman region. These security points will remain operational until the morning of 11th Muharram.

Within the DG Khan city, 21 additional checkpoints have been set up, while strict screening and checking of vehicles and individuals entering the city is in progress. In Taunsa city, seven more checkpoints have been established, and the SP Investigation will remain stationed there for the next three days to supervise security operations.

All available police personnel from offices and police lines have been deployed at checkpoint locations to strengthen security coverage.

Additional Rangers contingents have also arrived in Vehova, while Pakistan Army troops have assumed security responsibilities in Taunsa, Dera Ghazi Khan and Kot Chutta.

The DPO said that major religious gatherings and processions are being monitored through thermal drones, Safe City surveillance systems and CCTV cameras. Furthermore, 170 plainclothes police personnel have been deployed at key intersections and public places to conduct covert surveillance and monitor suspicious activities.

Special teams of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), police and the Special Operations Unit (SOU) have also been deployed in border areas between Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly around Dera Ismail Khan, to respond swiftly to any potential security threats and maintain vigilance against anti-state and anti-social elements.

The DPO emphasized that police remain fully alert, proactive and operationally prepared during the concluding days of Muharram.

“Maintaining law and order is our top priority, and all available resources are being utilized to ensure peaceful observance of Muharram across the district,” the DPO said.
