LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 3rd Mar, 2026) The Lahore district administration sealed 16 shops and arrested 17 individuals during a large-scale crackdown against profiteering and hoarding, conducted on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to provide relief to citizens and ensure price stability.

During the citywide campaign, 6,016 inspections were carried out in various vegetable and fruit markets and main bazaars. Fines amounting to Rs353,000 were imposed on violators for overcharging and other irregularities. Deputy Commissioner Lahore Muhammad Ali Ijaz directed all assistant commissioners, along with PERA force personnel and 90 price control magistrates, to remain fully active in the field and continue indiscriminate action against lawbreakers without interruption.

The DC made it clear that no leniency would be shown to profiteers and hoarders, adding that strict monitoring of the supply chain is underway to prevent artificial price hikes and maintain market stability.

Officials said the arrival of 57 trucks of potatoes, 56 trucks of onions and 40 trucks of tomatoes in wholesale markets helped maintain a balance between supply and demand. They confirmed that there has been no increase in the prices of any vegetable or fruit, while prices of five items, including tomatoes, garlic and dates, have witnessed a decline.

Field officers have been directed to ensure strict implementation of the official price list and to continue daily inspections. Citizens have been advised to lodge complaints through the district administration’s social media platforms or by contacting the control room at 0307-0002345.

The DC said that all available resources are being utilised to shield the public from artificial inflation and deliver tangible relief at the grassroots level.
