DG Khan, Khanewal finalize foolproof security arrangements for Muharram

DERA GHAZI KHAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Jun, 2026) Foolproof security arrangements for Muharram mourning processions and religious gatherings in Dera Ghazi Khan and Khanewal have been finalized on the directions of the Punjab Home Department.

Official sources informed that 1,396 conventional and licensed processions and 4,505 religious congregations would be held across DG Khan, while 196 processions and 1,036 religious gatherings would take place in Khanewal in different categories.

Around 12,300 security personnel, including trained staff, will perform duties to provide security for the events in both districts.

In addition, the police, Punjab Constabulary and Quick Response Force have been put on high alert to ensure peace in and around the venues of the sacred events. Reserve Police and Elite Force commandos have also been placed on alert to cope with any untoward situation.

CCTV cameras have been installed across the districts to closely monitor all events and prevent any untoward activity. Roads leading to imambargahs, mosques and other venues will be secured with the assistance of bomb disposal squads.

RPO DG Khan Azhar Akram said a control room had been established at the regional office and would remain operational round the clock. He said directions had been issued to the concerned police officers to launch a crackdown against hate speech, sectarian activities, wall chalking and other acts that could disrupt law and order, particularly since the beginning of the holy month.

In Khanewal, Section 144 has been imposed under which display of arms, objectionable banners and portraits, and provocative speeches have been banned.

The authorities vowed to maintain peace and brotherhood throughout the holy days of Muharram.
