LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 1st Mar, 2026) The Department of Specialized Healthcare and Medical education Punjab has appointed 118 Medical Officers and Women Medical Officers in 14 different teaching hospitals across the province under Section 5 of the Punjab Locum Hiring Act 2025. A formal notification regarding these appointments was issued on Sunday.
According to the notification, the appointments have been made in light of the recommendations of the Vice Chancellor, University of Health Sciences Lahore, through the Special Purpose Vehicle, in accordance with the provisions of the Punjab Locum Hiring Act 2025. The selected doctors have been hired on a locum basis to serve as Medical Officers and Women Medical Officers.
All appointed doctors have been directed to report immediately to their respective Medical Superintendents along with their original certificates, degrees, and registration documents.
Medical Superintendents have been instructed to ensure that the appointed doctors are neither postgraduate trainees nor currently serving in any government position.
The locum doctors will work under the administrative control of the concerned Medical Superintendent and will receive remuneration as per prescribed rules. Their duty hours have been fixed at eight hours per day, and they will be required to mark attendance regularly. Medical Superintendents will verify that the doctors perform their duties during assigned shifts.
The department has clarified that appointments on a locum basis will remain at its discretion and will not grant any right to permanent employment under any circumstances. Furthermore, if a locum doctor wishes to resign, they must inform the concerned Medical Superintendent at least two days in advance.
