Youm-e-Takbeer symbolises Pakistan’s sovereignty, strategic deterrence: PA Speaker

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th May, 2026) Punjab Assembly (PA) Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan has on Tuesday that Youm-e-Takbeer represented Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to national sovereignty, strategic stability and collective national dignity.

He added that the country’s nuclear capability had established a credible balance of power in South Asia.

Addressing a national seminar organised by the General Cadres Doctors Association at Allama Iqbal Medical College in connection with Youm-e-Takbeer, here, he said Pakistan had always defended its freedom, sovereignty and territorial integrity against expansionist designs and external pressures.

The speaker observed that successive Indian governments, particularly under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had continued to pursue expansionist narratives rooted in the concept of “Akhand Bharat”, adding that the people and leadership of Pakistan had consistently demonstrated unwavering commitment to safeguarding national interests.

The speaker termed recent remarks by the Indian Army Chief regarding Pakistan irresponsible and provocative, saying such statements undermined regional peace and stability and reflected a dangerous mindset that should be taken seriously by the international community.

Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan said that although Pakistan strongly believed in peace and dialogue, it possessed the capability and determination to defend itself against any aggression. He added that Pakistan’s nuclear capability served as a guarantor of peace and strategic equilibrium in the region and had played an important role in preventing escalation of conflicts in South Asia.

Referring to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, he said wars brought devastation, economic destruction and irreversible humanitarian suffering, stressing that the global community must prioritise diplomacy, peaceful coexistence and conflict prevention.

He warned that even a single nuclear incident could result in unprecedented humanitarian and environmental devastation whose effects would continue for generations, and urged scientists and policymakers to ensure that nuclear technology was used only for peaceful purposes, national defence and regional stability.

The speaker said Youm-e-Takbeer and other defining moments of Pakistan’s defence history should be commemorated with unity, pride and renewed commitment to national cohesion.

Highlighting the role of youth, he said the government was committed to bringing Pakistan’s medical colleges, universities and research institutions in line with international standards so talented Pakistani students could pursue world-class opportunities within the country.

On the occasion, Professor Dr Tayyaba Waseem said Pakistan was a priceless blessing and paid tribute to the armed forces for their sacrifices and commitment to national defence.

Former provincial minister Dr Saeed Elahi said the events of May 28 had transformed Pakistan into a strong nuclear state and enhanced its stature in the international community. He also acknowledged the contributions of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif in strengthening the country’s strategic defence capability.
