Karachi prepares for Youm-e-Ali 2026 tomorrow, Wednesday, March 11. This marks the martyrdom day of Hazrat Ali (R.A.) on 21st Ramadan 1447 AH.
The Sindh government declares a public holiday for all educational institutions. Schools and colleges—public and private—stay closed across Sindh, including Karachi, Hyderabad, and Sukkur. The holiday lets citizens attend processions safely and eases traffic and security management.
Government offices and most private businesses stay open. No broader public holiday applies province-wide for Youm-e-Ali 2026.
The central juloos in Karachi follows its traditional path. It starts from Nishtar Park around 1:00 PM after the central majlis. Participants move to Numaish Chowrangi, then proceed along M.A. Jinnah Road. They offer Zuhrain prayers on M.A. Jinnah Road, usually near Imambargah Ali Raza. The procession ends at Hussainia Iranian Imambargah in Kharadar by late evening.
Youm-e-Ali juloos draws large crowds. Authorities close key roads to secure participants. M.A. Jinnah Road shuts for general traffic from Guru Mandir to Tower. Saddar sees heavy restrictions around Empress Market and Regal Chowk.
Traffic diversions help commuters. Vehicles from Nazimabad divert via Lasbela toward Garden and Nishtar Road. Traffic from Liaquatabad redirects from Teen Hatti toward Lasbela. Those on Sharea Faisal toward Numaish use Kashmir Road or Sharea Quaideen.
Security ramps up for Youm-e-Ali 2026. Sindh deploys over 22,000 police personnel province-wide, with about 7,900 in Karachi. Snipers position on high-rise buildings. More than 1,000 CCTV cameras monitor from the Central Police Office and Civic Center.
A three-layer security perimeter surrounds the main juloos. Walk-through gates and manual frisking become mandatory. Quick Response Teams stay on high alert. Extra police guard major hospitals. Pillion riding faces a temporary ban in Karachi for the 24-hour period.
Youm-e-Ali commemorates the martyrdom of Ali ibn Abi Talib (R.A.). He served as the fourth Caliph of Islam and first Imam for Shia Muslims. A poison-coated sword struck him during prayer in Kufa’s Great Mosque on 19th Ramadan. He passed away on 21st Ramadan.
Police finalize arrangements for the Youm-e-Ali juloos in Karachi. Enhanced measures include route sealing, snap checking, and CCTV surveillance. These steps ensure safety during the central procession on March 11, 2026.
