This marks Mariduena's first appearance since his debut in the 2023 "Blue Beetle" film, directed by Angel Manuel Soto.
Xolo Mariduena is heading back to the DC universe, by confirming that he will reprise his role as Jaime Reyes, also known as Blue Beetle, in the upcoming James Gunn‘s highly anticipated Superman sequel “Man of Tomorrow.”
This marks Mariduena’s first appearance as the character since his debut in the 2023 “Blue Beetle” film, directed by Angel Manuel Soto. Mariduena joins an extensive ensemble cast for the film. David Corenswet returns as Superman, with Nicholas Hoult playing villain Lex Luthor and Lars Eidinger taking on the role of Brainiac.
The cast also includes Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Adria Arjona as Maxima, and Aaron Pierre.
Filming for the blockbuster has been underway in Atlanta since April and is expected to continue through the summer. Mariduena’s return is likely to excite fans, especially given the uncertain status of other “Blue Beetle” projects.
In 2024, it was revealed that a Blue Beetle animated series was being developed by Miguel Puga alongside Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios. Since then, HBO Max shifted its programming strategy last year to prioritize adult and family content over children’s programming, following weaker performance in that category. As a result, updates on the animated series, which was aimed at the character’s younger fan base, have stalled. While the animated project remains uncertain, fans now have confirmation that Jaime Reyes is returning to the big screen.
