WWB, Labour deptt KP advances institutional governance thru IMC formation

PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Feb, 2026) The Labour Department, Workers Welfare board Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has taken a significant step towards strengthening institutional governance and enhancing industry linkages by advancing the formation of Institute Management Committees (IMCs) across its Technical and Vocational education and Training (TVET) institutes.

In this regard, a two-day sensitization workshop was organized under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Sector Support Programme (TVET SSP). The workshop brought together principals of Workers Welfare Board KP institutes to deliberate on the effective formation and operationalization of IMCs.

Representatives of the Social Welfare Department and heads of institutes from the Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority also participated, reflecting strong inter-departmental coordination for collaborative governance in the TVET sector.

The workshop aimed to enhance awareness and understanding of the IMC framework and its role in improving institutional oversight, transparency, and performance. Participants were briefed on best practices related to IMC formation, governance structures, and mechanisms for ensuring active industry representation.

Special emphasis was laid on strengthening collaboration between TVET institutes and industry to align training programmes with market requirements. Through interactive discussions, participants explored ways to improve employability of graduates by incorporating industry input into curriculum planning, skills standards, and practical training.

The session also focused on developing a sustainable and functional model for IMC operations, including clear terms of reference, defined roles and responsibilities, performance monitoring mechanisms, and long-term impact assessment.

The initiative was implemented with the support of the European Union in Pakistan and German Development Cooperation through TVET SSP, delivered by GIZ Pakistan. The training was conducted by the Institute of Social and Policy Sciences, which provided technical expertise and facilitation.

The Labour Department, Workers Welfare Board KP reiterated its commitment to continued reforms in the TVET sector and to strengthening partnerships with development partners and industry stakeholders for inclusive economic growth and workforce development in the province.
