Woman tortured to death by husband, in-laws

BOUREWALA, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Mar, 2026) A woman was allegedly tortured by her husband and in-laws over suspicion of having an affair, who later succumbed to her injuries at a hospital, police said on Friday.

The victim, identified as Shabnam Kausar, a resident of 505/EB, was reportedly subjected to severe torture with batons by her husband, Shahid Saleem. She sustained critical injuries and was initially shifted to THQ Hospital Burewala. Due to her deteriorating condition, doctors referred her to Sahiwal Hospital where she later died during treatment, police added.

Following the incident, police registered a case on the complaint of the victim’s brother, Shaban, against the husband Shahid Saleem, father-in-law Muhammad Saleem and mother-in-law Shamim Bibi.

Police said all three nominated accused were arrested shortly after the registration of the case.

According to initial investigation, the in-laws had suspected the woman of having an illicit relationship with an unidentified person, which allegedly led to the violent assault.

Police officials said the deceased was the mother of four minor children. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
