Wheat procurement campaign gains momentum in Punjab

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Apr, 2026) The wheat procurement process is actively underway across the province under the supervision of DG food Punjab, with a significant number of farmers participating in the initiative.

Director General Food Punjab, Amjad Hafeez, stated that 63,313 farmers have been registered so far, while the registration process continues at 233 wheat procurement centers established across the province.

He further revealed that 14 companies are taking part in the procurement drive across Punjab.

Currently, the Food Department holds a stock of 1,862,428 metric tons of wheat.

According to the DG Food, 26,260 wheat bags have already been distributed among farmers. Additionally, the government is providing free wheat valued at Rs. 6 billion to support the farming community.

Officials emphasized that the Primary objective of this initiative is to facilitate farmers and ensure a transparent and timely wheat procurement process, ultimately contributing to the strengthening of the agricultural sector.
