Wheat, Mustard seed crops mature at SAU Latif farm, harvesting process launched

HYDERABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Mar, 2026) The wheat and mustard crops cultivated for obtaining quality seed at the experimental Latif Farm of Sindh Agriculture University have matured and are ready for harvest. The Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Altaf Ali Siyal inaugurated the wheat harvesting and mustard threshing process.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Altaf Ali Siyal said that climate change was affecting agricultural production. During crop cultivation, farmers face several challenges such as water scarcity, uncertified seeds, unexpected rainfall and other difficulties, and despite these challenges, farmers often fail to obtain satisfactory profits. He emphasized that farmers in Sindh need to bring changes in the traditional agricultural system.

He further stated that Sindh Agriculture University was playing its role in ensuring food security. In this regard, he added that the seed production development center (SPDC) was providing certified basic and pre-basic seeds to farmers in Sindh.

In addition, training workshops were being organized for farmers, agricultural experts and students.

On this occasion, the Director farms of the university Dr. Muhammad Mithal Lund informed that more than 13 varieties of wheat were cultivated on the agricultural land of the Latif experimental farm for seed production, and after various experiments, better yields had been achieved. He said that the basic and pre-basic seeds will be provided to farmers in Sindh at the time of wheat sowing for higher productivity.

He further added that for quality mustard seed production, “Cazola” and “Sindh Raya” varieties were cultivated, which also produced better yields. The event was attended by the dean faculty of crop production Dr. Inayatullah Rajper, Dr. Manzoor Ali Abro, Dr. Shahnawaz Mari, Dr. Farman Ali Chandio and others.
