Wheat guidelines issued to offset heat impact as temperature rises

MULTAN, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th Feb, 2026) Agriculture experts have issued a set of guidelines for wheat farmers to off set the impact of heat on crop yield as temperature showed upward trend during last five days and the situation is expected to last for seven more days.

Punjab agriculture spokesman said in a statement that temperature in the province has been continuously rising over the last five days and an additional increase in temperature has been forecast for the next seven days.

In the light of the prevailing situation, wheat growers in rain-fed (Barani) areas have been advised to utilize all available irrigation resources to meet the crop’s requirements.

In addition, they should spray a 2% solution of Urea or Potassium Nitrate (Saltpeter) at the rate of 100 to 120 liters per acre.

For better results, the same spray should be repeated after an interval of seven days. Farmers should regularly inspect their crops. In case of rust attack, only the affected area should be sprayed with some appropriate fungicide in consultation with local agriculture experts.

In irrigated areas, wheat growers should ensure judicious use of irrigation resources in case of non-availability of canal water.

Traditional irrigation intervals particularly in areas with sandy soils should be reduced. In case of non-availability of water, farmers should spray 2% solution of urea or potassium nitrate (saltpeter) at the rate of 100 to 120 liters per acre. Repeat it after seven days for better results, the spokesperson concluded.
