The redesign should give WhatsApp a more consistent look and feel across all of Apple's device categories.
WhatsApp has begun a wider rollout of its liquid glass redesign to its Mac app, marking the final step in a nearly year long effort to bring a unified design across iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
WhatsApp’s first tests with the liquid glass design on iOS began last October, though a broader rollout on iPhone did not begin until roughly two months ago.
On Mac, the company started adapting select interface elements last month, drawing inspiration from the liquid glass redesign already underway on iPadOS. WhatsApp’s latest Mac App Store update introduces a redesigned sidebar along with updated elements for the chat bar and attachment menu.

The update also adds dedicated sidebar sections for locked chats and communities. Previously, locked chats appeared within the main chat list on Mac. Now they require authentication before they can be opened, matching the experience already available on iPhone.
The latest update helps close the design gap between WhatsApp’s desktop and mobile apps. All three platforms now share a consistent design language based on Apple’s latest operating system aesthetic, a goal WhatsApp has been working toward for close to a year.

Once fully rolled out the redesign should give WhatsApp a more consistent look and feel across all of Apple’s device categories, aligning with the visual direction Apple introduced in its latest operating systems.
For WhatsApp, unifying the look of locked chats and communities across platforms could make the app feel more intuitive for users who switch between phone, tablet, and computer throughout the day.
