Ministry of Energy has prepared a detailed working paper and briefed the Prime Minister on the suggested changes
ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-March 5th, 2026) In the wake of rising geopolitical tensions worldwide, the Government of Pakistan is considering changes to the mechanism for determining petroleum product prices, sources told private television channels.
The officials said that in light of current circumstances, new proposals have been prepared to make the fuel price review system more effective and responsive to fluctuations in the international market.
The Ministry of Energy has prepared a detailed working paper and briefed the Prime Minister on the suggested changes.
Under the proposed plan, petrol and diesel prices would be reviewed weekly instead of every 15 days, allowing authorities to adjust prices more quickly in line with global market movements.
The sources added that the final decision will be taken by the Prime Minister after consultation with his economic team. If global tensions persist, the government is expected to implement the new pricing mechanism soon to ensure the local market remains aligned with international prices.
Besides it, the government has tightened monitoring of petroleum supplies amid concerns over artificial shortages and hoarding. The relevant authorities have been instructed to closely monitor fuel stocks and distribution to prevent any kind of unauthorized profiteering or hoarding.
