Water samples from major canals sent to NWQL Islamabad for testing to monitor contamination risks

FAISALABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Mar, 2026) Acting on the directives of the Secretary of Ministry of Water Resources, the Water Quality Laboratory Faisalabad conducted monitoring of water quality in major canals of the region and dispatched collected samples to National Water Quality Laboratory (NWQL) Islamabad for detailed analysis.

A spokesman of district administration said here on Tuesday that the monitoring team collected water samples from Rakh Branch Canal, Jhang Branch Canal and Gugera Branch Canal to examine the condition of canal water and assess any possible contamination.

All types of laboratory tests would be conducted on the collected samples to determine whether any polluted or untreated wastewater is mixing into the canals, which serve as important water sources for agriculture and other uses in the region.

He said that the water samples have been sent to the National Water Quality Laboratory (NWQL) Islamabad for comprehensive testing and technical evaluation.

He said that the laboratory analysis would help identify the presence of contaminants, if any, and enable relevant departments to take timely measures to prevent pollution and protect water resources in the region.

The Water Quality Laboratory Faisalabad, located near the Election Commission of Pakistan office on Jaranwala Road, carried out the initial monitoring exercise as part of the efforts to ensure safe water standards and detect any environmental hazards affecting irrigation canals, he added.
