WASA suspends 16 staffers over absence

FAISALABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Jun, 2026) Water & Sanitation Agency (WASA) Managing Director Saqib Raza has suspended

16 employees of the Operations Directorate including two supervisors on the charge

of remaining absent from their assigned duty points during rainfall and said that no

negligence would be tolerated in providing uninterrupted drainage services during

monsoon season.

WASA spokesman said the MD had directed all operations staff to ensure their presence

at designated locations in view of the rain forecast and to remain fully prepared for

prompt drainage operations.

During the last rainfall at night, he personally visited various subdivisions to inspect

field arrangements and monitor staff attendance.

During inspection, several employees were found absent from their assigned duty

points, prompting immediate disciplinary action.

The suspended officials include: Supervisor Haris of Madina Town Subdivision and

Supervisor Ameen of Peoples Colony No.2 Subdivision along with workers Aftab,

Sarfraz, Imran, Charles, Adil, Shehzad, Nadeem, Iftikhar, Sattar, Kamran, Bashir,

Shahbaz, Tariq and Niaz.

The WASA MD ordered strict action against the absentee employees and directed

the concerned Deputy Director Operations and Maintenance (O&M) to submit a

detailed inquiry report within three days regarding the matter.

He said that WASA had already completed comprehensive arrangements to tackle

monsoon rains and ensure the smooth functioning of the city's drainage network.

He stressed that the presence of field staff at critical locations during rainfall was

imperative for timely disposal of rainwater and prevention of urban flooding.

He made it clear that absence from duty during rain emergencies was unacceptable

under any circumstances, adding that citizens expected efficient drainage services

and the agency would not compromise on its responsibility to provide immediate

relief during adverse weather conditions.

He warned that strict accountability would continue against officials and employees

showing negligence in the discharge of their duties, emphasizing that maintaining

an effective response system during the monsoon season remained a top priority

of the agency.

He said that WASA teams were working round the clock to address rain-related

issues and ensure public convenience. Discipline, punctuality and dedication among

field staff were indispensable for achieving operational objectives of the agency,

he added.
