LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th Apr, 2026) Punjab Minister for Housing Bilal Yasin and Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab announced on Wednesday to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between WASA Karachi and WASA Lahore to strengthen cooperation.
Addressing a joint press conference in Lahore, they stressed inter-provincial cooperation in urban water management and drainage systems.
Welcoming the Karachi mayor to Lahore, Bilal Yasin said that WASA Punjab has introduced digital monitoring of rainwater and drainage systems to enhance operational efficiency. He was accompanied by Chairman WASA Punjab Chaudhry Sher Ali and Managing Director WASA Ghaffran Ahmed.
The visiting delegation was briefed on ongoing projects in the provincial capital related to drainage and clean water supply. Technical aspects of SCADA monitoring, helpline services, solarization, water metering, and wastewater treatment plants were shared in detail. A comprehensive briefing was also given on underground water storage tanks.
The Karachi mayor appreciated the IT reforms and revenue collection system introduced by WASA Punjab.
Bilal Yasin stated that under the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, five agencies have been expanded to 41 districts within a year with full resources. He added that under the WASA Punjab Development Plan, thousands of kilometers of new pipelines are being laid to improve drainage infrastructure.
He further said that WASA Punjab is being fully digitalized to ensure effective operational monitoring, while the construction of underground water tanks will help improve timely drainage and groundwater levels.
Speaking on the occasion, Murtaza Wahab said Karachi would benefit from Punjab’s technical expertise in water supply and drainage systems. He stressed that inter-provincial coordination and sharing of expertise would help address public issues and improve service delivery.
“It is an honor to hold my first press conference in Lahore with Bilal Yasin,” he said, adding that he had visited Lahore along with a delegation from the Karachi Water Board and invited Lahoris to visit Karachi.
