Vaccination camps planned in Upper Kohistan in commemoration of World Immunization Week

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Apr, 2026) To mark World Immunization Week, starting from April 23 to 30, a series of activities including Vaccination Health Camps have been planned for communities dwelling in Upper Kohistan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The initiative aims to improve access to essential health services for underserved populations besides strengthening routine immunization services in remote and mountainous areas.

The camps will cover mostly those children who are missed in immunization campaigns and pregnant women for administering them essential vaccines.

According to a press release issued here on Wednesday, these activities are planned by Hujra Village Support Organization under the patronage of Expanded Programme for Immunization (EPI) KP and GAVI, the Vaccine Alliance.

The organization held a camp at BHU Kuz Jalkot wherein around 151 patients were examined particularly women and children, says Bahadar Sher, Coordinator Hujra.

Health Department also send its staff to the camp including EPI Coordinator, Dr. Bakhtak, Medical Specialist, Dr. Rafiq, Children Specialist, Dr. Zahir, General Surgeon, Dr. Nizamuddin and Dr. Majeed.

The medical teams vaccinated 40 children and also carried out awareness sessions about importance of vaccines in prevention of diseases and timely consultation of doctors for treatment of different diseases, besides medical needs of pregnant women.

The visiting patients, especially female, were also apprised about reaction of Penta vaccine which causes fever and were advised to complete vaccination course.

Apart from check up by expert doctors, free medicines were also provided to patients visiting from far flung areas.

Appreciating the initiative, General Surgeon, Dr. Nizamuddin said it is necessary to hold camps for providing of medical services and vaccination awareness among dwellers of this remote and underserved communities.

He said a large number of patients visited the camp and benefited from getting free medical check ups, medicines besides vaccination among children.

Such events should be held on regular basis throughout the year for provision of medical and immunization services to people of such a far flung and mountainous regions, Dr. Nizam stressed.

The next camp is scheduled in a couple of days at BHU Seo Tehsil of Upper Kohistan district, where a higher turnout of children and patients is anticipated due to the area’s large population.
