Discussions have reportedly progressed to a stage where senior representatives from both countries may engage in direct face-to-face negotiations

ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-March 24th, 2026) The high-level talks between the United States and Iran could take place in Islamabad later this week as diplomatic efforts to reduce regional tensions appear to be gaining momentum, the Israeli media claimed on Tuesday.

The reports suggested that the discussions have reportedly progressed to a stage where senior representatives from both countries may engage in direct face-to-face negotiations, marking a potential step forward in easing hostilities.

The sources said that the proposed meeting could be part of broader efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions in the region and exploring avenues for dialogue.

The reports suggested that Iran may be represented by senior officials including Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, while the US delegation is expected to include Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, and Vice President JD Vance.

A US journalist, writing on the social media platform X, claimed that Turkey, Pakistan, and Egypt have been engaged in backchannel diplomacy, facilitating communication between the two sides to help lay the groundwork for a possible agreement.

Separately, sources say senior officials from Egypt and Pakistan have held individual meetings with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US envoy Steve Witkoff, with discussions reportedly focusing on ending the conflict and resolving key disputes.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump had also indicated that contacts with Iran were ongoing and suggested that progress in the matter could be expected in the near future.
