ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-March 2nd, 2026) The US Embassy in Pakistan announced the cancellation of all visa and American Citizen Services appointments for Monday (today) after protests outside the consulates in various parts of the country.
The embassy, in a statement, the cancellations apply to the US Embassy in Islamabad as well as the US Consulates in Karachi and Lahore.
As a result of the suspension, individuals affected by the cancellations have been instructed to await the announcement of new appointment dates.
The US Embassy confirmed that all visa and consular services are temporarily suspended in Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore. The further update about the rescheduling of the visa applications would be provided in due course, said the officials.
On Sunday, the protests erupted in Karachi and other parts of the country in response to the US and Israeli attacks on Iran.
In Karachi, the protestors attempted to storm the US Consulate. The violent clashes ensued, resulting in the deaths of 10 people.
However, some international news outlets reported 21 deaths in Pakistan. But there is no official confirmation yet in this regard. Islamabad and Lahore both are high alert and heavy police contingents have been deployed to control the protests.
The police said that the protesters threw stones at the US Consulate, prompting security forces, including police and Rangers, to use tear gas shells and push the demonstrators back.
Rescue officials confirmed that eight people had been killed in the clashes near the US Consulate.
Hospital authorities at Civil Hospital reported that the trauma center received eight bodies, along with 24 injured individuals who had sustained wounds from gunfire, baton charges, and stampedes.
In addition, the traffic police reported that due to the protests, the road from Sultanabad to Mai Kolachi has been blocked, causing disruptions in traffic flow in the surrounding areas.
The vehicles coming from the Boat Basin area are being redirected for a U-turn at Mai Kolachi Gatewhile traffic from the PIDC area is being sent back via Park Cut.
